Cemented carbide strip, also known as cemented carbide strip plate, is mainly made of WC and Co powder by metallurgy. The content of WC and CO in different kinds of cemented carbide strips is different, so they are widely used.
The carbide strips are used in a wide application field. They’re very good material to produce the parts to resist high temperature & corrosion, also widely used as wear parts, shielding parts, mold core, insert, special shape punch and so on, for cutting cast iron, nonferrous metals, plastics, chemical fiber, stainless steel and high Manganese steel, etc.

YG6 has higher wear resistance, but lower than YG3, better impact resistance and vibration resistance than YG3X. It is suitable for semi-finishing and finishing of cast iron, non-ferrous metals and alloys with medium cutting speed.
YG8 has higher strength, impact resistance and seismic resistance than YG6, but its wear resistance and allowable cutting speed are lower. It is suitable for low-speed rough machining of cast iron, non-ferrous metals and alloys.
The production process of powder-metallurgical products basically includes the four steps of powder preparation, forming, sintering and finishing.
The tungsten carbide is intensely mixed with the binder metal cobalt, nickel or iron, various grain growth inhibitors and materials, which promote compaction, by wet grinding so that a homogeneous suspension is created. Afterward, the suspension is dried in a spray tower to produce a granulate with good flow characteristics. This granulate represents the basis for all forming processes.
The objective of the forming process is to obtain a net shape sample. Pressing is normally carried out at room temperature with pressures reaching up to several tons per square centimeter.
The sintering process converts the blank into a homogeneous and dense carbide with a high level of hardness. The material is sintered at temperatures between 1,300 and 1,500 °C (liquid phase sintering) and sometimes also at high pressure (up to 100 bar). The volume is reduced by up to 50 % during this process.
In order to achieve the final requirements of surface finish, tolerances, etc. carbide parts can be subjected to a series of finishing processes such as grinding, spark erosion and coating.
